Golf is a difficult game to master and most golfers just don’t have the time it takes to practice, practice, and practice to significantly improve it. When you’re playing golf badly it isn’t much fun, but you can change it if you apply yourself. You may receive the best golf tips in the world, take countless lessons and get superior instruction and still may not be able to gain consistency.

Overall, you generally want to play golf with confidence; know you are improving your swing each time you play. Approach the game with a positive attitude and repeat affirmations, for example, ‘I play the greatest golf all the time.’ It’s been proven that thinking positively about bettering your golf game will benefit you more than playing to compete with your partners and trying to win for the sake of winning. Not that if you’ve hit with your golf driver perfectly just once, then you can do it every time; the subconscious mind knows the correct number and sequence of muscle contractions and nerve impulses that are needed, called muscle memory.

And make sure not to grip the golf club too tightly. When you swing, use the muscles in your legs and trunk. Before you swing, make sure you’re relaxed; contract all your muscles tightly for a moment, then relax them.

Putting can become a nightmare and a condition called the ‘yips’ has affected not only amateurs but golf professionals; get expert advice and consider a golf swing trainer. Use the basic ‘hitchhiker’ position when working on your back swing. Ask your golf pro to evaluate your posture and body mechanics while you’re swinging.

The most important thing about the golf swing is the angle, not the strength that’s applied to it, that’s one of many swing secrets. At the end of a swing, the weight has shifted almost entirely to the left foot, the body is fully turned to the left and the hands are above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over your back. Accomplished golfers purposely use sidespin to steer the ball around obstacles or head toward the safe side of fairways and greens.

At the end of a back swing the hands are above the right shoulder with the golf club pointing more or less in the intended direction of the ball flight. It is difficult for a golfer to practice hitting shots longer than short pitch shots unless of course, one pays to play golf or pays to practice at a driving range or indoor golf training facility.

Once you realize that you can change your swing by using a simple technique, you’ll never underestimate golf fitness again. To prevent injury and improve swing speed and distance requires your body to be strong and flexible. By conditioning your golf muscles you’ll be rewarded with straighter swings. You can get rid of annoying shoulder problems with some simple techniques.

You can find golf trainers that will help you with your wrist and arm position. If you’re looking for an aid to improve your stance they’re easy to find. There are golf swing aids that will help you with your swing alignment too.

Golf swing trainers and aids can often be found online and are often much cheaper. Sporting goods stores also have trainers to improve your game. And they are often available for sale at your pro shop or local golf shop.

There are a wide range of golf swing aids and analyzers on the market today to help the beginning and advanced golfer improve his or her swing techniques. If you’re a golfing novice and just starting out, it’s easy to become overwhelmed. Before buying any aid or trainer for your swing, check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you will need to work on first; for example, back lift of golf swing, momentum of downward thrust or the stance.

Buy some golf videos or DVDs and golf swing software, review them and commit yourself to a time to practice what you learn. When you play a round of golf, concentrate on your putting, improving your golf swing or something specific for that day; have a plan in mind each time. Try to concentrate on one of the weaknesses in your swing.

If you apply both mental and physical workouts, your reward will be some super golf swing improvement. Make sure to practice, practice, practice and practice for the perfect, super golf swing!

Most golfers want to learn how to drive long off the tee. That is because added distance gives us a shorter and easier second shot to the green. Some of the golf swing instruction guide books claim to teach us how to add more distance; an extra few yards or so. These guide books, though, are aimed at the beginner or recreational golfer. They teach you everything about the golf swing; from the grip and setup, to the backswing and follow through. But if you are a more accomplished golfer that is looking for more detailed information about how to drive long, you will need to go to the distance golf experts.

The Long Drivers of America

The first website that you should check out is the Long Drivers of America. They are the golf association that runs the Remax Long Drive Championship. They are into learning the power golf swing for attaining maximum golf distance. So, if you want to participate in the Re/Max World Long Drive Championship, then you need to visit the LDA website.

Mike Austin

Unbelievably, the Worlds longest golf drive has not been broken since 1974. Golfing legend, Mike Austin, holds the Guinness World Record for longest drive in a tournament. His record breaking 515-yard drive was accomplished at the 1974 U.S. National Senior Open in Las Vegas – at the age of 64!

The golf equipment doesn’t have that much to do with how far you can drive the ball – Austin used a 43.5 inch steel shafted, wood head driver! Although, today’s long drive champions prefer 2X or 3X, extra stiff shafts that are up to 50 inches long, with driver lofts that are as low as 5 or 6 degrees.

How To Drive Long Off The Tee

For most of us, we just want to learn how to drive long and to improve our general golf game. Even if you have a decent grip and swing, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you will have a good golf distance off the tee. The major factor that you need to improve is your golf club head speed. Every 1 mph of increased golf swing speed translates into about 2.5 yards of distance. If you increase your swing speed, you’ll increase your distance.

Obviously, there are other factors to perfect if you want to learn how to drive long. Golf flexibility and fitness training will improve your overall golf game, as well as your distance. Another important area of your game that you should know about is the mental game of golf. These areas of golf are usually ignored by most golfers, but they are crucial if you want to take your game to the next level.

A Distance Golf Instructor

So, if you really want to learn how to drive long, you will need a professional golf instructor who knows what is required for distance golf. If you are currently hitting drives of 200 yards, then adding a few yards to your drives won’t help you much. You need to find someone that has been where you are and who can now hit 350 to 430 yard drives.

As you are starting to play the great game of golf, everybody and their brother will be attempting to give you beginner golf tips. Trust me I mean everyone. This includes the guys that you are playing with that cannot break 100 themselves! They will become David Leadbetter or Butch Harmon in their own mind of all places right there on the golf course. You will quickly learn that there is a time and a place to work on your game. The golf course is where you should play and not practice. Work through all of your beginner golf tips while you are practicing on the driving range, short game area or practice putting green.

So with everyone throwing all of these free beginner golf tips at you, how do you know what to trust? Well, I can tell you that I do not ask my fellow golfers about legal or accounting advice. Through golf books, golf DVDs and local golf instruction, there are many credible and qualified sources for you to tap.

Here are two beginner golf tips from Brad Myers who teaches at The Massengale Golf Academy in Houston, Texas:

Beginner golf tips: Short Game

Opposed to popular belief and actions, if you want to learn how to play the game of golf or if you have played for a long time and want to lower your handicap, learn how to chip and putt. It may not seem as macho or as sexy to learn all of these little short shots as opposed to standing on the driving range banging out long shots. No matter what your current handicap is, if you want to lower your golf scores learn all aspects of the short game. This will drop your scores faster than standing on a driving range for a long period of time week after week.

Here is a question that may put how important the short game is and can help put it into perspective for you. Once your round is finished, do you want to give your buddy a hard time about the one drive you hit past him/her or do you want to brag about the lower score that you shot? Speaking from experience, the ribbing about how your buddy hit one past you is pretty short-lived as he is paying you for winning the bet of lowest score.

One last thought about the short game for you is to make sure you arrive early enough to spend some time on the putting green putting and chipping before your round. You do not need to spend thirty minutes there. You just need to hit enough putts and chip shots to get a good feeling going prior to your round.

Beginner golf tips: Have fun

Unfortunately, most people will tell you that they play the game for fun or to relax but their actions simply do not say the same thing. Especially while you are learning the game, you should set little goals for your rounds or practice time. Sometimes they are not even to do anything with golf. You simply cannot concentrate for four to five hours straight. Maybe it is to play with certain people to enjoy their company or maybe you try to identify different birds or wildlife. Remember it is to be fun for you!

Using these beginner golf tips will help you reach your playing goals and fun goals!

PGA players do them consistently throughout the week of a tournament and are seeing great results. In fact look at the top players on the pga tour and you will see proof. Tiger, Vijay, Adam Scott and many others are reaping the benefits of an exercise program specific to golf.

Exercise Specific To Your Swing

The key to their success on tour is to work on exercises specific to their golf swing. Every player has different weaknesses in their body they need to address to improve their swing and overall performance. These pga players know how important it is to do a fitness program that will improve their golf swing faults and physical weaknesses.

This type of training to improve golf swing power and consistency involves strength, flexibility, balance, coordination, body awareness (proprioception). This cannot be accomplished with machines. Machines are controlled and usually isolate only one muscle group, where the golf swing involves the entire body in a sequential motion.

The PGA Is Too Competitive To Ignore An Exercise Program

The PGA Tour has gotten too competitive to think you can go on raw talent. In fact, raw talent won’t even get you on the tour anymore. There are hundreds if not thousands of excellent golfers who dream being on tour, but don’t make that total commitment to become a golfing athlete.

This commitment is above and beyond what the earlier pga players did, but that will not cut it anymore. Todays players are athletes. All athletes condition their body’s to perform. It is time amateur golfers took notice.

Core Exercises Are Very Popular On Tour

I was watching a very good segment on the television with Vijay Singh and his trainer. It was impressive! One of the focuses his trainer said was on core exercises using a weighted medicine ball. Vijay was throwing to his trainer dozens of times from different angles strengthening not only his golf muscles, but his core, helping him be one of the longer hitters on tour.

Golf Swing Flexibility Is An Important Element

Many of the pga players know how important it is to stay limber. They all partake in flexibility exercises specific to their swing. These stretches are either done with the trainers assistance, or can be done alone, even in their hotel rooms. But either way, they all incorporate flexibility exercises to keep their golf swings fluid and tension-free.

Golf Fitness Is Here To Stay

Anyway you look at it, golf fitness is going to be an integral part of the pga players program if he wants to succeed and make a consistent living on tour.

Embrace it in your golf performance approach and you will soon reap the benefits of lower scores and the enjoyment of blasting your drives long and straight!
