Every golfer carries his own special style when it comes to putting. I have used my style and the same putter many years now, it’s work quite well, so I intend to continue what I am doing even though many people tell me there are newer and better ways. One contemporary style many golfers are using is the very upright, firm grip, no- wrist method to achieve the great results the pros are getting.

I don’t do this so, if I seem to contradict this style, in which each stroke originates inside the shoulders, so be it.I find I putt more consistently by using a very light, very delicate grip in which requires about the same pressure I would apply to a steering wheel of a car. It’s all in the wrist and this wrist action can be compared to the swinging of gate of a fence. After bringing the club back, I like to hesitate an just an instant before beginning an all forward stroke. Then I employ a good amount of stick to- through, exaggerating that action.

My experience leads me to believe that the average golfer will do very well on the greens sticking with an old-fashioned method like I have described. Sometimes the older ways are better and provide the most consistent results.

Even the guys who play golf for a living and get the best golf instruction in the world still struggle to improve their golf swing and they practice each and every day. When your golf swing is off and you’re playing golf badly it isn’t a lot of fun, but you can change it if you apply yourself. Golf is a difficult game to master and most golfers just don’t have the time it takes to practice, practice, and practice to significantly improve it.

Golf requires tough mental fitness as well as physical fitness and this is often overlooked. Keep the good positive energy flowing and don’t give in to any negative thoughts. On the golf course focus or concentrate totally on your swing and you’ll get the best score. Don’t let unrelated thoughts slip in. Say to yourself ‘be here now’ to stay focused. As you swing, visualize exactly where you want the ball to land.

At the end of a proper golf swing, the weight should have shifted almost entirely to the left foot, with the body fully turned to the left and the hands should be above the left shoulder with the club hanging down over the back. The most important thing about the golf swing is the angle, not the strength that’s applied to it. That is only one of many swing secrets. Ask your club golf pro to evaluate your posture and biomechanics while you’re swinging.

Swing slowly and steadily using good rhythm. And make sure not to grip the golf club too tightly.

Many golfers who are left-handed prefer the right-handed golf swing. Now at the end of a backswing the hands are above the right shoulder with the golf club pointing more or less in the intended direction of the ball flight. When you swing, if you have a problem with your left knee buckling, imagine holding a soccer ball between your knees.

Make sure to use the basic ‘hitchhiker’ position when working on your back swing. One of the problems that most inexperienced golfers share is that they think much too much about their swing.

Most golfers don’t know that there are techniques that will greatly affect swing mechanics. You can get an edge by changing your approach. You can get rid of any annoying shoulder problems with some simple techniques. In order to prevent injury and improve swing speed and distance your body needs to be strong and flexible. Using some simple tips, techniques and stretches, you can increase your drives by up to 20 yards in a short period of time.

Keep in mind that with some golf swing trainers, you may still need some help from an expert. And most of all you don’t want to waste your money on a golf swing aid you don’t need or will never use. If you’re looking for a golf swing trainer to improve your stance they are easy to find.

There are swing aids that will act as driving range simulators too. And you can find golf trainers that will help you with your wrist and arm position. There are golf swing aids to help you with your swing alignment.

Before you buy any aid or trainer for your swing, check with an expert to get an idea of what problem you need to work on first; for example, back lift of golf swing, momentum of downward thrust or your stance. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just starting out, get just one trainer or aid and go to work on your natural, proper golf swing. Look for golf swing trainers at your local golf course too.

And need I mention that with plenty of practice, a super golf swing will be the end result. There are hundreds of free and simple golf tips to seek out in consumer and sports magazines, in books, ebooks, software and DVDs both, online and offline. And if you apply both mental and physical workouts, your reward will be super golf swing improvement.

It’s important to just try to relax and enjoy your game while you play. And when you play a round of golf, concentrate on your putting, improving your golf swing or something specific for that day. Always have a plan in mind.

Putting is probably the single most important golf technique in the game, never forget that half of all strokes allowed for in a par score are putts. The Putting Green is an almost sacred place for golfers. It is where games are won and lost. It looks so easy – there are none of those careful fine points to tune in your swing to achieve the long low drive or the stunning iron shot. Some of the best putters produce astounding strokes with an indifference that suggests disdain to us lesser mortals who struggle with our putters. Improving your putting is a great way to improve your scores quickly but how do you do that – and why should you?

As to why, there is a simple answer which is best illustrated by going back to the last time Tiger Woods won The Open. Sergio Garcia hit almost 80% of the greens and 66% of the fairways, striking the ball well throughout the tournament, but his putting let him down. Even though he hit most of the greens in regulation, Sergio averaged nearly two putts on each of those greens. Tiger won the tournament, he hit far less greens than Sergio but made almost a quarter less strokes on each of those greens. Taken over the entire tournament, this difference is why it was Tiger’s name on the trophy!

Putting makes up over 40 percent of your game, so its importance cannot be over-emphasized. You should devote at least that percentage of your practice time to it. Nothing spoils a good round more than weak putting so when you practice make sure you work on both the mechanics of the stroke and the feel. Putting has often been described as more inspiration than technique and there is no doubt that some good putters simply cannot explain it, they are, as it were, born to it. But the poor putter needn’t give up. Working hard to pick up some essentials, along with a sensible practice regime, will result in steady improvement and the results will soon show – remember that old golfing adage – drive for show and putt for dough! Once your score is consistent and you have developed your game it is time to start thinking about developing feel. Putting feel is an acquired skill, your brain needs to determine how the length of your stroke relates to distance. This begins by ensuring you always make solid contact with the ball, and that comes from those good fundamental techniques you should be practicing. The basic stroke motion is a pendulum action. When putting, your hands should always be slightly ahead of both the club head and the ball. Your arms and shoulders should form a triangle that moves as one during your back swing and stroke – exactly like a pendulum.

There are many different grips demonstrated by the pro’s when putting but it really doesn’t make much difference as long as you know what you’re doing with the putter head. As long as you can keep the edges of the putter square to the target during the stroke you will be OK. For example, keeping your left-hand low tends to keep the face angle more square as it swings up like a pendulum. The ‘up’ motion gets the ball rolling earlier, which creates a straighter line, reducing the potential for break, almost like taking the bottom of the ball and rolling it up over the top. Try experimenting with different grips and see which one works best for you. Putting with your rear arm can give a feeling of acceleration through the putt, which is critical for creating a smooth, end-over-end roll. Rear-arm putting accomplishes this mainly because of the weight of the putter, with two hands it’s easier to make stabbing or decelerating strokes.

You should never aim to get the ball just as far as the hole, especially if you are off the green. Putting from the fringe or even just off the green is very different to putting on the surface of the green. More often than not putts are not hit with enough power and can end up getting bogged down in the longer fringe grass. Even if you are on the green you must hit the ball hard enough – a ball that doesn’t reach the hole has no chance of going in! Any competent golfer will tell you that a properly struck putt should roll approximately seventeen inches past the hole, as if the hole wasn’t there. This definition is based on the work of Dave Pelz, a professional golf teacher and Ex-NASA Physicist who has written may books on the subject, such as ‘The Putting Bible’ and who is widely regarded as the greatest putting coach working today. Of course, this distance is approximate, depending on specific grass types and environmental conditions, it may vary a little either way, but the seventeen-inch distance is the best rule of thumb for overall conditions.

Stance is less likely to be a consideration in putting than in any other stroke. No hard and fast rule can be established, no two golfers follow the same style. A still and steady body position with a motionless head is, however, one of the essentials that all coaches agree on. Putting is much too delicate a process to withstand any body motion. How you stand is a matter of trial and error, if you feel comfortable that is as good a guide as any. An open stance with the right foot well up to the ball can to be a good position, your body should rest easily on your legs. The length of the club will dictate any bend in the knees but always remember the three golden rules of golf when making your putt – keep your head still, keep your head still, keep your head very still!

Sometimes your putting goes wrong in the middle of a round – but with just a few seconds of concentration you can generally get it back on track – provided that you do your practice. Step off to the side at a time when it won’t delay play and just close your eyes for a few seconds. Swing your arms the way you do on a putt, just like you do when you practice – is your body balanced? Is your head still? Are you achieving the pendulum motion? Check these simple things and you will soon get your putting back on track.

Putting is the greatest test of skill on the golf course and requires regular, high quality practice sessions, ideally on a putting green or with something that represents an actual hole as nearly as possible. Most golfers typically practice putting whenever they can find a suitable surface either outdoors or indoors. It is the most neglected part of the practice routine of many amateur golfers and yet it is the one thing that can reduce your score overnight. If you want to improve your golf techniques quickly and get your handicap down- practice your putting.

Help answer the question about golf techniques

Need tips on teaching my girlfriend how to Golf?
So, finally my gf showed interest in learning how to golf, which make me as happy as little child on x-mas morning. Anyway, I bought her all the equipment, clothes, etc. (I’m proably more excited about her new hobby than she is.) I think its fair to say she sucks. Because frankly she does, and besides shes just beginning. The sucking part is OK, it’s her attitude. She get offended when I tell her shes doing something wrong. I also don’t think she takes my advice serious (BTW, I have a lot of experience golfing). She has potential and I can’t wait for the day we can go golfing together, but she has really bad attitude. And snaps at me when I tell her what to do. Any advice on better training techniques?

The game of golf entails more than just hitting a small ball through the grass in the hopes of it landing in a hole. There is much more to the game including taking in environmental factors such as the slope of the green, the weather, and the amount of water on the grass. Professional golfers notice all these elements and take them into consideration before they take their shot. If you are serious about becoming a good golfer, you need to remember that this will not happen overnight. You need to build keen observation skills, build up patience, and understand that no matter how hard you try, not every shot will be your best.

Even though many professional golfers look like they are having a good time on the course and not taking themselves too seriously, the reality is that they are concentrating very hard on making the right shot. Playing golf with other professionals only adds to the tension, but once a golfer blocks these negative feelings out, they are able to concentrate on the task at hand. In order to become a better golfer, you will have to learn how to block tension, stress, and negativity out and focus on the game. Only then will you begin to improve.

The best time to practice letting go of negative feelings and learning how to relax is when you are learning how to golf. By learning the basics, you will have a foundation that you can build on each time you go out to play a round. If you are receiving lessons from an instructor, ask them what they do to relax. Many will tell you that they clear their minds or they think of something pleasant. Either way, it is up to you to find a way to help yourself focus when playing golf.

Once you have learned how to reduce stress during the game, your next step will be to learn how to better your technique. This is where the real work comes in. Practicing at least twice a week can help you become a better golfer. Strengthening your reasoning, observation, and listening skills can help you develop your own unique style. Those who are able to play golf the way they want to play will have much more success on the course. You may even notice that some of these principles will transfer to other areas of your life as well.

There are a couple of very simple errors in balance that most people make but can easily be avoided. Here are two simple tips on improving your balance and golf swing, as well as correct the basic slip-ups that you could be doing.

1. A Good Setup, A Good Balance, A Good Swing

A good tip for improving your golf swing would be improving your setup. A lot of golfers do not have a good balance because they started off from a bad setup. If you have a good and solid setup, you would be able to keep balanced as you swing. Maintaining your balance would give you a solid swing plane as well as a good pivot. Make sure keep your whole body under control during your setup so you could improve your balance and swing.

2. Swinging Too Hard

Although having great distance is essential, having perfect control of your swing is equally important. What usually happens is since you want distance, you give your all you can when you swing. This causes you to wheel around and lose your balance, as you swing too hard. What you would need to do is trust your club. It is already designed to send the ball to great lengths so you would need to focus on making your swing as solid, as steady and as balanced as possible to stay in the fairway.

For many golfers, a big concern is how to hit the ball farther. Typically, a good swing with solid fundamentals will naturally allow you to hit the ball far provided you have good strength. There are a few important keys that you can specifically work on to hit it farther.

The first key I recommend is having good angles in your setup or swing. A good setup will have good knee flex and a correct bend from the hips with the weight on the balls of your feet. A good setup is a critical component to not only swinging more on the correct path but also hitting it farther. You want to have a good shoulder turn on the backswing where your shoulders turn a full 90 degrees. This will allow you to swing the golf club over your shoulder and maintain good angles at the top of your backswing as well. From there, you’ll be in a powerful position to swing back down through the golf ball.

Second key is swing speed. You want to make sure you are swinging fastest at the point of impact. Many golfers make the mistake of rushing their backswing, making it too fast and then from their it is forced to slow down coming into the golf ball when it should be speeding up at this point. One key on timing of your swing is the backswing should be three times as long as the downswing. Tour players were studied and it was recorded that they all have this correct tempo where their backswing all are three times as long as their downswings. Make sure not to try to swing too hard from the top of your backswing. Often times golfers try to hit the ball too hard resulting in lots of problems when hitting the golf ball. You want to have a nice and smooth transition and allow the swing speed to increase as you are nearing the impact position. This will maximize your chances of hitting the ball longer and straighter.

Third key is creating lag in your swing. You do this by hinging your wrists in the backswing which allows you to build up “leverage”. Then on the downswing your hands will actually lead into the golf ball before the club hits the ball. With the hands slightly ahead at impact, you’ll be assured of a solid strike which will make the golf ball travel farther.

A very brief pointer from the man himself.
Help answer the question about golf swing
How can I maintain a fluid golf swing with muscles in the way?
I used to be muscular, and while I could hit the ball pretty far, I couldn't hit it consistently well. My muscles, notably chest muscles, would impede my golf swing. Now that I'm much less muscular (rather skinny), my golf swing is like butter and I hit it extremely well (though not as far). However, I want to put on muscle mass again and am wondering if there's a way to maintain my current golf swing while doing so.

Thanks in advance.

Swinging on plane is a big key to hitting solid golf shots. The first thing that needs to be correct is your setup. A good setup position with a correct grip, good angles, and proper alignment will all aid you in swinging on plane correctly.

Starting your backswing on plane requires a slow smooth takeaway with the arms and shoulders. At the point where the golf club is parallel to the ground in the beginning of your backswing, the golf club should cover up your hands if you were looking in a mirror or someone was standing behind you this is what you would see. If the clubhead is too far in front of your hands, it is too far outside the plane line. If the clubhead is too far behind your hands, the club will be inside too much. Both of these incorrect positions will cause problems with keeping the club on the correct swing plane during the rest of your swing.

Halfway into the backswing, your hands should be set in the middle of your chest. Also, from this halfway back position, if you drew a straight line down from your left elbow (for the right handed golfer), it should point right at the golf ball. If your left elbow is pointing more towards your feet, your swing plane is too steep. If your elbow is pointing too far out away from the ball, your swing plane is going to be too laid off or flat. This is a great drill you can use to make sure you are starting your backswing on plane correctly.

Most golfers want to learn how to drive long off the tee. That is because added distance gives us a shorter and easier second shot to the green. Some of the golf swing instruction guide books claim to teach us how to add more distance; an extra few yards or so.

These guide books, though, are aimed at the beginner or recreational golfer. They teach you everything about the golf swing; from the grip and setup, to the backswing and follow through. But if you are a more accomplished golfer that is looking for more detailed information about how to drive long, you will need to go to the distance golf experts.

The Long Drivers of America

The first website that you should check out is the Long Drivers of America. They are the golf association that runs the Remax Long Drive Championship. They are into learning the power golf swing for attaining maximum golf distance. So, if you want to participate in the Re/Max World Long Drive Championship, then you need to visit the LDA website.

Mike Austin

Unbelievably, the Worlds longest golf drive has not been broken since 1974. Golfing legend, Mike Austin, holds the Guinness World Record for longest drive in a tournament. His record breaking 515-yard drive was accomplished at the 1974 U.S. National Senior Open in Las Vegas – at the age of 64!

The golf equipment doesn’t have that much to do with how far you can drive the ball – Austin used a 43.5 inch steel shafted, wood head driver! Although, today’s long drive champions prefer 2X or 3X, extra stiff shafts that are up to 50 inches long, with driver lofts that are as low as 5 or 6 degrees.

How To Drive Long Off The Tee

For most of us, we just want to learn how to drive long and to improve our general golf game. Even if you have a decent grip and swing, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you will have a good golf distance off the tee. The major factor that you need to improve is your golf club head speed. Every 1 mph of increased golf swing speed translates into about 2.5 yards of distance. If you increase your swing speed, you’ll increase your distance.

Obviously, there are other factors to perfect if you want to learn how to drive long. Golf flexibility and fitness training will improve your overall golf game, as well as your distance. Another important area of your game that you should know about is the mental game of golf. These areas of golf are usually ignored by most golfers, but they are crucial if you want to take your game to the next level.

A Distance Golf Instructor

So, if you really want to learn how to drive long, you will need a professional golf instructor who knows what is required for distance golf. If you are currently hitting drives of 200 yards, then adding a few yards to your drives won’t help you much. You need to find someone that has been where you are and who can now hit 350 to 430 yard drives.

The swing is a very important part of your golf game and it determines if your scores are going to look good or if you are going to be struggling through the day. Many players ,beginners and pros alike, spend the maximum amount of practice time working on this aspect of the play. Did you know that it is possible to work this on your own without the costs of expensive training? Training devices can be used to perfect your swing technique, and you can practice with them on the course.

The golf impact indicator is one such accessory to help improve the golf swing. This can be used with any of your golf clubs from the kit bag. It is a simple device that is placed on the face of the club, which helps you determine if you are striking the ball at the right angle with the club. Basically, once you play the shot, a mark appears on the indicator to tell you which area of the club head has in fact hit the ball. If you miss the right area of the club, the ball will travel flatter and probably a shorter than desired distance as well. This sweet spot on the club head is that area which has been designed to strike the ball with. It is vital when you are putting.

You could invest in other forms of swing aids as well, some that are a bit on the costlier side and more advanced. You could invest in training devices such as twisted railings that allow your hands to move only in the right paths. A great training aid is a weight that can be slipped on to an iron and here it remains right over the club’s head. The extra weight basically helps strengthen your swing power much like an exercise, and this is a good way to practice before a game of golf.

But do not get the impression that every training device needs to be costly and complicated to use. You could use some of the tips given below to improve your swinging skills with a very easy to use and simple process. This will definitely help you improve on balance, which is a key area you need to work on to improve the swing:

1. Keep a coin on your left foot if you are a right handed layer, or your right foot if you play left handed.
2. Swing the club and see if the coin falls off your foot.
3. If it has flown off, see where it fell.
4. If the coin has slid towards your toe, then it means that you have your foot raised too much during the back swing motion.
5. If the coin has totally fallen off the foot it means you probably completed the shot on your heel.
6. When it hasn’t moved much you have done well, and this simple exercise can be used to see where you are going wrong with the swing.
