Golf Lessons - Do You Really Need Them?

If you have ever found yourself looking longingly at the pros playing their golf or even sat and watched television golf and found yourself yearning to play as well as the players on the screen or the golf course, you can begin with getting yourself some golf lessons and put in a lot of practice. Because golf requires a player to invest a lot of time in practicing his game before he can get anywhere near hitting a ‘birdie’.

Golf is a sport that is played by people of all age groups and genders. Though folklore has it that golf started as a masculine sport in England as a club which was named GOLF. This is believed to be an acronym for Gentlemen Only Ladies Forbidden. The reason for this club was that ladies began to spend a lot of time in their Female Liberation movement and were encroaching on every sport that men were active in. The gentlemen of the time wanted exclusivity to a sport and space that they invented a game that was similar to golf and named it that.

Today both men and women are well known for their expertise in the game and many have excelled to the extent that a majority of golfers consider a dream. This may not be a dream for you if you can put in a good amount of dedicated practice even if it means hiring the expert assistance of a professional golf instructor.

Golf will have people who are expert level players, amateur level players and those who play just for the fun of the game. It is not a problem to find someone to play with and there are still people who like to play just by themselves. Golf can be played alone or with a group of people. The versatility of the game is what makes it such an attraction. Then there is the possibility of making millions if you make the game your profession. But then you have to be really good at the game.

The major disadvantage of learning to play the game of golf is, ironically, the golf lessons. There are many who find it very difficult to find a good instructor to deliver the golf lessons. Some of the golf instructors are very proficient in their field but they have short tempers and a lot less patience. Then there are times when the cost of the golf lessons is unaffordable. However, if you are determined to learn golf then nothing an stop you from getting some good lessons in the game. In fact it is advisable to invest in a few good lessons in golf as you are bond to pick up the fundamentals of the game this way. Learning the wrong techniques is bad because you will find it very difficult to un-learn those techniques. So, start off with golf lessons and learn the right techniques at the beginning of your golf career. This is the only way to make a good debut into a field you are new to.

Do golf instructors expect a tip after a golf lesson?
Is it considered proper ettiquette to tip a golf instructor? I generously tip waitstaff when I dine out, but I don't tip the hardware store employee who explains how to fix something. I tip a cab driver, but I don't tip the person who bags my groceries. I am just wondering where golf instructors fall in the tipping category.

It sounds like your sister and bro in law are beginners, if they are beginners, then any PGA professional would do. If you want to really treat them to a top teacher, try Don Hurter, at Castle Pines or Mike McGetrick, who has his own golf school in Denver.

I like the South Suburban Family Center by Centennial and Denver Tech Center. They have a great range, the best chipping and pitching area that I’ve ever seen and a really good short par three course.

I would first ask around for recommendations from golfers in your area. If you do not get a consensus on a good coach I would just go to your neighborhood course and take lessons from the golf pro there. Good luck.

All you need is a short series of lessons on the basics of the golf swing from a good golf pro. and then practise earnestly and play with friends until you feel happy with your game.
