Golf Swing Fundamentals #3

Everybody loves to try something new to improve on their golf scores. We all would like to do better at what we do. You could choose from a variety of training aids on the market to help your golf skills. In fact the range of options is so fast that you could be left wondering what you should invest in. But it is clear that if you are looking for training devices then it means you take your golf seriously, and have come to learn that these aids really can improve your skill level.

Many of these training devices come with free training video DVDs that tell you exactly how you can use the device most effectively. You will find other videos being sold independently of the devices as well, and they are made keeping virtually every aspect of the game in mind. You will get videos on your stance, the perfect swing, putting and chipping. Then there are the videos that are specially designed to help you warm up and loosen your golf muscles before a big game.

Some training devices have been made that correct your golf swing. They are made so that your arms can only swing in one plane, perfect for golf. Repeated use of these devices will get your arms used to the perfect swing even when you stop using the aid..

There is more to the training aids than just that though. You will find loads of other tools that will help you become a better golfer. Training gloves can help your grip, and then you can invest in club weights, training books and many more accessories. Books are still a great way to learn about a game from an expert. Many of these training devices have been invented by some of the leading names in the field of golf.

You will need to look around before you find a training device that is just right for you. After all , all of us are made differently and we have different hurdles to overcome. The manufacturers of these training aids have kept in mind some of the most common problems faced by beginners and pros on the golf circuits. So you can expect to find something that will help you train better. Remember that what may have worked for someone else may not work for you simply because your problems with the game are different.

Take the time to think about your weak areas before you go shopping for training devices. But remember that a training aid should be used along with your regular golf practice classes and sessions, and they are by no means a replacement for the same.

I guess The Simple Golf Swing works because all the common golf problems are addressed within its pages. If you for example have a problem with your drive, then you can read exactly what you should do to increase the distance of your drive (which I believe is a very common problem, my problem was inconsistency – before the ball seemed to go in a random direction every time I hit it).

    "Practical Golf"

Clear – indeed, practical – golf advice from one of the great teachers, John Jacobs. "Practical Golf" goes into such things as developing a consistent swing, improving the mental approach, playing from rough, curing a slice and adding distance.

  6. Stand up straight and hold your left arm out pointing straight ahead. Now move your extended left arm to the right until it is stopped by your chest.

Some of you flatter-chested individuals can move your arm quite far before it meets your chest, but women and men with large chests will run into a roadblock very soon. Their left arms have a much shorter range of motion because of their chests. This is the point that Ben Wright, the golf announcer, was trying to make when he said that women with large breasts have a tougher time playing golf. Wright was criticized for his remarks, but what he said was not altogether untrue.

Nevertheless, there are some things you "obstructed" golfers can do to free up your arms for the swing.

First of all, instead of letting your arms hang down alongside your chest, try putting your upper arms more on top of your chest at address. Secondly, to encourage the body to turn freely in the backswing, we should do two things: Turn the right toe out about 30 degrees, and draw the right heel away from the target line a few inches.

What we're doing is making it easier for the body to stay out of the way of the arms as they go about their job of swinging the club up and down the swing plane.

These are things flat-chested, flexible golfers don't have to concern themselves with. But if you body type doesn't match that of the local club champion, don't think that your swing should look the same someday.
