Golf Tips- 5 Fun Tips for Teaching Golf to Kids

golf_for_kidsGolf tips for teaching golf to kids should always revolve around making sure that the kids have fun. Sure, it would be great if your son became the next Tiger Woods, but golf should be treated as a game, not a life or death struggle. These 5 tips will ensure that a child learns golf and enjoys it at the same time!

Tip 1) Keep Your Instructions Simple

If a parent is a golfer themselves, they have a tendency to be technical about elements of the game. Trying to explain concepts like “tempo’ or “swing plane” will only confuse a child. A confused child is easily frustrated. Start by taking the child to a driving range, and start practicing putting. The child will gain confidence by successfully making contact with the ball.

Next, teach the child how to chip the ball. This is a good second step, because chips require little backswing. The child has a good chance of success striking the ball.

Finally the child will progress to the driving range area. When instructing a child on a full golf swing, it is important to make sure they keep their feet on the ground, watch the ball, and strike it. Keep your golf tips on taking a full swing VERY simple.

Tip 2) Let The Child Progress At Their Own Pace

One of the best golf tips I ever recieved as a child was to practice most frequently the parts of the game that I enjoyed most. This advice ensured that I would stay with the game long enough to see success. Once I saw success with the elements of the game I enjoyed most, I ventured out to practice new areas of the game. Never push a child to improve too quickly. Patience is the name of the game with children.

Tip 3) Have Fun!

Once a child senses that golf is no longer fun, they have a much greater chance of losing interest. Try to structure competitive, but enjoyable games. It is important to make sure that all the children are winners. Constantly praise and encourage the participants.

Tip 4) Use Good Judgement In Purchasing Golf Equipment

Buying a child expensive golf equipment is a risky decision. Children tend to lose interest in new areas very quickly. The wisest decision is to purchase a used set of clubs intended for women. The clubs will be light weight, and easy for a child to control. If the child has demonstrated that they will continue to play golf, professional instruction might be appropriate. Just make sure the child is getting golf tips from a pro who has lots of experience teaching kids.

Tip 5) Teach Golf Etiquette

Children should learn golf etiquette very early in the teaching process. They should understand very basic rules such as standing still when another golfer is striking the ball. Certainly they should learn never to speak when a fellow player is putting etc.

Hopefully, these golf tips for kids will enhance the possibility that a child will not only get involved with the game, but enjoy it as well!

    Great video!5*
    Nice music and painting!

  3. Three great drills:

    1. Connection drill – take either two small headcovers or two golf gloves and place them under your arms. Using a pitching wedge, make 10 three quarter swings only focusing on not dropping the items under your arms. This is done by some of the best in the business these days – Padraig, Vijay, etc… Just be sure to stick with short shots on this drill. It's purpose is to get the big & small muscles of the upper body working in sequence together.

    2. Balance drill A – Hit 15 shots and with each shot, hold your finish until the ball lands. As simple as it is, it's a fantastic drill for developing real consistency over the long term. Think this is too simple for your liking, you Tiger & Phil wannabes? Go to your local course and watch the golfers on the range/course. How many of them hold their finishes (and how many of them can break 100)? Now watch 5 minutes of PGA/LPGA Tour golf on TV. How many hold their finishes? And how good are they again? Try it and you'll surprise yourself.

    3. Balance drill B – Place 5 golf balls in a line that's perpendicular to your target line/foot line, all about 3 inches apart. Back up about ten feet from the golf balls and with club in hand, stand on one leg (for RH golfers, your left leg). W/o using your club as a crutch, hop over to the closest ball and make as balanced a swing as you can, being sure to use your body to turn back & thru (not your hands & wrists).

After impact, try to really get thru the ball to the point that you almost have to hop to maintain your balance. Once you've accomplished this, don't put your right leg down. Remember, you still have 4 more balls to hit.

Once you've hit all five golf balls, hop back over to the original spot where you started from and then you can put your right leg back down on the ground. This is much more difficult than it seems, but is a lot of fun, especially for kids who have a decent amount of experience in the game. But trust me, you'll feel this one.

Try this a few times, then hit ten or so normal shots with both feet in standard position. It's a great way to teach balance in a golf swing.

If you are willing to work on your game and can make consistent contact with the ball, I'd keep you on my team. For high school girls, many golf coaches (unless you go to a school with an outstanding girls golf program) are just looking for girls who have some experience with the sport. I hate having to start from scratch. Don't EXPECT to play varsity in the very first match but definitely show the coach that you WANT to.

I think Golf Digest is a better magazine. Not only it supplies useful golf drills and tips from the top teaching and playing professional (butch harmon, hank haney, tiger woods, tom watson and many more), there are alot of news regarding about golfs. If you pick Golf Digest up, you'll know happenings around the PGA tour, players' interviews and tips, fashion, Q&A, junior tournaments, good car and restaurants and many more.

OK here are some tips: make certain there are no extremes in your set up to do this your feet shoulders and hips hould be aligned or very close this influences your swing about 80%.

Always make sure you weight is even on both feet this will ensure no slumping of the shoulders that will throw off your swing my a large degree.

Keep your grip firm yet relaxed to promote a full release of the club almost as if you were going to throw the club down the fairway.

Stand up tall and relaxed bend over slightly and slightly bend your knees this should allow your swing to be upright and not flat but be carefu lnot to stand up to tall or you will get to steep.

Always commit to your shot 60% of all bad shot are because of being tenitive go for it and follow through.

My number one tip is to stay centered on all shots the goal in golf is to return the club to the ball the same way you set up to it, be a golfing machine stay cenetered turn back and finish facing your target easy.

I agree with you. In probably 90% of my answers in the golf section I say… go get a lesson from a pro. We don't know there swing — they could be describing it wrong.. we could be telling them the wrong thing. Its too hard to give someone tips over the internet when 1/2 the time, they don't understand what you are telling them to do. So many people just ask a buddy for some tips instead of going and asking someone who does that for a living and making their golf game better. Like my friend had me over, showed me her swing and asked me what she should do to improve it. She thinks I should know because I have two cousins who are PGA Pros and an uncle on Tour. I just wrote down my cousins phone number and told her to call him. It bugs me so much that people try to improve there game by just asking other golfers. Good Question!
    - I was reading another answer and recipes are different than fixing a golf swing.

I am picking up golf this year and bettered my game by getting DVDs and books from the local library.
Also, I get out to practise putting areas and ask tips from other golfers near there

    Good luck and have fun

Truly, the best idea, is to ask a golf proffesional at your nearest driving range. There, you can ask as many questions as you want, and the instructor will guide you throughout your swing. It makes it alot easier than reading other peoples ideas because you dont know truly that you are making the perfect swing. I hope your game improves!
